Nini curated niniandthebrain on Instagram during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide an objective review and assessment of clinical data, punching through fear-mongering headlines, and misinformation pervasive on most sources of media. Her following grew organically through detailed posts and risk/benefit analysis. Whilst her expertise resides outside the fields of virology, epidemiology, immunology, or infectious disease, her experience handling large data sets and conducting engineering risk assessments and FMEAs allowed her to explore and chart trends in real time to promptly communicate studies and clinical outcomes both at the individual and population level. She completed her Ph.D. at Cornell University in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering exploring carbon electrodes for neurotransmitter recognition, neural sensing, and stimulation. Nini lives in Santa Barbara, CA with her husband and daughter. A Colombian native, she aims at equitable access of science through her bilingual communication efforts and non-profit work in the community.
